Technology and Innovation at IHS

Technology

At our school, technology is part of how children learn from their very first year, not an add-on, but a thread running through Kindergarten and Primary alike. Coding begins in KG as screenless, hands-on activities, growing through Primary into computational thinking, physical computing and real design work with tools like TinkerCAD. In 2026, Team Tech Titans from IHS Al Garhoud qualified for the national round of the First Lego League (FLL) Explore challenge and won the Best Poster Award, competing against more than 50 schools. DSIB rated innovation skills Outstanding in the 2023–24 inspection, specifically citing KG coding as a curriculum strength.

What this looks like, day to day

Technology at IHS Al Garhoud isn’t one subject on a timetable — it shows up in four distinct ways, each building a different skill.

Coding Curriculum

In KG, coding starts as screenless activities — no devices, just logic and play. By Primary, it grows into computational thinking through physical computing and block-based programming, using tools matched to each age group.

Design Based Learning

Using TinkerCAD — real computer-aided design software — students apply subjects like Mathematics to genuine design problems, building spatial visualisation and critical thinking through a project-based STEAM framework.

Tech@Magical Friday

A dedicated weekly slot where coding and digital design become play. Students explore tech tools creatively, building digital citizenship habits without the pressure of a graded lesson.

Urban Farming

Where technology meets the environment. Hands-on farming projects integrate science and sustainability, teaching healthy eating habits and the value of recycling through growing, not just theory.
